Acute Regression in Young Adults with Down Syndrome (click on this link and enlarge if necessary)

This is the final edition of a poster I created which was presented at Metagenics International Congress 2019, Gold Coast Australia.

Parents are reporting regression at younger ages and more frequently than research is indicating. The biochemical imbalances that cause a person with Trisomy 21 (T21) to regress are linked to alterations in GABA/ glutamate neurotransmitter production and are driven by imbalances in the microbiome affecting genetics and biochemistry. See my post on ‘Elevated Glutamate in Trisomy 21‘ for a more detailed explanation.

Regression is treatable, but if you are seeking complete healing of the body, you will not find it in the current mainstream approach. A functional medicine approach involves looking at what functions in the body have changed to allow imbalances to occur and comes closer to providing you with the answers you are seeking. A functional medicine approach proposes the ‘parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole’.

All T21 practitioners have their own unique approach to healing the body, as well as experience working with people with T21 who have experienced regression. We approach treatment from a holistic perspective using functional medicine testing to determine the cause of disease and treat with current evidence based natural medicine approaches.

As a Naturopath my aim is to restore ‘balance’ to the body by determining the root cause of disease.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me for advice or an appointment if your child is experiencing regression.
